प्रतिवर्षी ५ सप्टेंबर हा दिवस शिक्षक दि न म्हणून साजरा केला जातो. भारताचे पूर्व राष्ट्रपती डॉ. सर्वपल्ली राधाकृष्णन यांच्या जन्मदिना च्या अवसर वर शिक्षकांच्या प्रति सन्मान प्रकट करण्यासाठी सर्व भारत भरात ५ सप्टेंबर हा दिवस साजरा केला जातो. 'गुरु ' चां प्रत्येकाच्या जीवनात खूप महत्त्व असतं.समाजात ही त्यांचा एक विशिष्ठ स्थान असतं. डॉ. सर्वपल्ली राधाकृष्णन शिक्षणा मधे खूप विश्वास ठेवत होते. ते ही एक महान तत्वज्ञ आणि शिक्षक होते. त्यांना अध्यापनात गहरे प्रेम होते. एका आदर्श शिक्षकाचे सर्व गुण त्यांच्यामध्ये होते. या दिवशी देश भरात भारत सरकारच्या वतीने श्रेष्ठ शिक्षकांना पुरस्कार देण्यात येतात.

आज गुरु शिष्याची परंपरा जरा कलंकित होताना दिसत आहे. येणाऱ्या दिवसात शिक्षका अथवा विद्यार्थी द्वारा होणाऱ्या दुर्व्य वहार अनेक बातम्या ऐकायला मिळतात. तरीही विद्यार्थी आणि शिक्षक या दोन्हींचा दायित्व आहे की त्यांनी या महान परंपरेला उत्तम प्रतिने समजून एका चांगल्या समाजाला घडवण्याचा प्रयत्न आणि सहयोग दिला पाहिजे.
